Something to Think About

September 04, 2009

A first time event is always exciting, but one that raises money for a community-based organization is even more exciting. The Bushkill Emergency Corps First Annual Golf Tournament was certainly a success last week. Smiling faces were confirmation that the day proved to be all expected and even more.

The weather cooperated, an important ingredient to any event's success, but so did the support of the community and businesses who stepped up to help. The Great Bear Golf and Country Club course was in fine shape and judging by the comments of the golfers, none-too-easy on their golf games. A 2009 Mustang was waiting patiently on hole 11 for the golfer who could make a hole-in-one. The car was provided by Family Ford of Netcong, who sponsored the hole, and it almost went home with the golfer who missed that hole-in-one by a mere five inches. No, the second place prize was not a two year lease.

Although everyone who participated was a winner, the following were recognized with prize awards at the conclusion of the tournament: First Flight, 1st place 59): Dan Perrich, Rich Hurley, Dana Foley and Michael Baxter, Second Flight 2nd place 70): Wayne Bolt, Neal Simpson, Cavertis Miller and Ron Crenshaw. Men's longest drive was awarded to Jason Haley and women's longest drive was awarded to Carrie Key. Closest to the pin for men went to Pat Cook and women's to Dana Foley. The award for the most honest team went to Kathy and Dennis Farrelly who played as a twosome with a score of 78.

The event raised about $3,000, which was largely due to the support of the many tee and green sponsors, door prize donors and Great Bear Golf and Country Club's donation of a year's club membership valued at $5,000. The winner of the year's membership was Neil Simpson.

The event's success was due to the efforts of Mark Moorhead; Dennis Farrelly; Sivick; Vollmer; Menditto; Peter Ahnert, Sr. and the Ahnert family; Stephanie Maino and Kristen LeFebvre as well as the staff and management of Great Bear Golf and Country Club and Bushkill Emergency Corps members. The date of next year's event will be announced soon, so look for the announcement in Bushkill Emergency Corps's subscription mailing on its Web site early in 2010.

Thanks to all who participated and helped make this premier event a terrific success.
